Target Participants
Teachers, therapists, psychologists, social workers and other professionals working in preschools, special schools, Integrated Child Care Centres (ICCC) or other children centres.
Learning Objective
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
1) Describe atypical development in children
2) Discuss the diagnoses and basic characteristics of children with developmental delay, intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities
3) Identify the difficulties and impact of the disabilities on the children’s learning and adaptive living
4) Apply basic teaching strategies to enhance the learning of the special needs individuals
Course Outline
1) Developmental milestones and atypical development in children with special needs
2) Intellectual disabilities (includes down syndrome)

Trainer
Ms Faridah Ali Chang, B.Psychology, is a registered psychologist (Singapore) cum senior trainer/consultant with Rainbow Centre Training and Consultancy (RCTC). Her work as a psychologist with both Rainbow Centre Schools gave her extensive experiences in working with children with down syndrome, cerebral palsy, global development delay, multiple disabilities and autism particularly in areas of assessment and behaviour management. Ms Chang has been actively training preschool educators and professionals in the special needs area since taking on the role as a trainer in RCTC. Part of her work includes consultation with preschool educators and centres on disabilities and integration. She has also been invited to give talks on specific topics on special needs and other topics in teacher development.
